Look at what happened over the weekend !!!! The harvest brought great excitement to the class and was consumed even by those kids who don't eat vegetables ... that has got to be the biggest lesson taught today ... vegetables are great tasting and can be fun to grow ...
We are starting a website dedicated to adding new indoor growing technologies like vertical farming, aquaponics and of course microgreens. Check out the home page, more to come ... new urbaform educational website

We have been quiet for a bit because of our development of a new Microgreenfarm Classroom kit that is designed to introduce microgreens and plants into classrooms and curriculums. We have been testing our kits in multiple classrooms and at entirely different age groups. Here is a shot that says it all from a Head Start classroom that includes special needs children aged 3-4. If that isn't the ultimate test to grabbing and holding attention, I can't imagine what is. Kids that age measure attention span in seconds and if an activity cannot capture their attention immediately it will be a big fail. This photo was shot after 5 days of growth and on a Friday. They are going to harvest this first "crop" and enjoy the fruits of their labor on Monday .... 7 days from seed to harvest for the unique broccoli microgreen bounty. In spite of extreme watering (enough to float the media and seeds), bad seed instructions (burying rather spreading and piling rather than spreading), and overall challenging fine motor application ... the first crop was a rousing SUCCESS !!!
Watch for more news and pictures as we prepare our kits for rollout ... contact us directly through the website if you or your school systems are interested in implementing this unique presentation for indoor "farm to table" agriculture. |
