Here are two shots showing inital seeding of the tray and now after 2 full days in the darkness of the germinating tray. It appears that our strategy to seed more evenly has worked and there are an exceptional numbers of seeds that have sprouted (or said another way, germination rate is exceptional). Also note that the roots are aggressively searching for anchors and many small hair like roots have emerged. One more day till putting into the light ...

As promised, here are photos to compare and contrast ... one on the left is first crop and seeding of the tray containing broccoli seeds that were just harvested. Second photo on right is the new radish mix seeding that was done for our second microgreen crop. I believe this was one of the major initial mistakes we made, so in a few days we will know ....
Lots of rookie mistakes but a great result on our first crop from our Microgreen Kit... Let me start with the mistakes as we see them in retrospect ... 1) seeding technique on the initial tray was incredibly bad, this led to bunching of the microgreens and subsequently to areas of dense growth and patches of clear space. We started today a second tray of radish mix that we were extremely careful in our seeding technique and this should be way better result (photo of the tray vs broccoli tray will be uploaded after this post. 2) watering - I think we mistakenly added too much water stunting more growth rather than helping ... will be more disciplined on our second crop. 3) light management - will be adding supplemental lighting to our radish mix this time around. Blue LED light came day before harvest. Here are shots of the harvest ... Harvest yielded approximately 4oz of broccoli microgreens. I say approx because all I had was an OLD spring type postal scale so approx would be a generous term. In subsequent reporting, we should have a recently ordered electronic scale to yield far better measures of our production.
Would be great to hear back from others who have our kits with their experiences and crops .... Just got my new Blue LED light from ebay ... had to take a pic to highlight the cool look it gives to our microgreen tray ... this is my new grow light as I supplement the sunlight coming in from morning exposure ... great pic though that I am using on my cell phone lock screen ...
This is photo of our first tray of broccoli seeds that have been in our Microgreen Kit for 10 days now ... we are nearing a harvest point as you can see the first secondary leaves starting to appear. In the next day or two when we have more of these second leaves we will harvest and document the yield of our first crop. We have many ideas to try going forward and with the success of this first crop, we have planned our next planting of a radish mix. Stay tuned for the next installment of our Microgreen blog ...
Take a look at this shot taken this afternoon ... almost exactly 7 days from our start ... The microgreens (might be giving them more credit for future growth ...) are doing amazingly. The stems are strong and some are starting to turn a reddish color ... the leaves are a deep green and it looks like second sets of leaves are showing ... our first harvest will be early next week .... STAY TUNED on this channel !!!
The first full day of being in the light, compare to yesterday's photo and see the color starting to emerge in the tray ... leaves are emerging, the first pairs. Stems are getting longer and stronger ... the tallest now are above the rim of the tray. Amazing looking sprouts at this point ...
The sprouts are now ready to emerge and see the light ... growth on the tallest of sprouts is to the top of the tray which means approx 2" high. Kinda like we humans, the plants now need to get some light so they can get some color ... we are almost half way to our first harvest.
Wow ... 3 days out and almost 100% germination ... they must like it up here. Fine roots are appearing on most plants and heights approaching 1" seems common. Tomorrow will be the day we open up the tiny guys to light and turn the whole mat green ... stay tuned
