As an experiment we ordered some sprouting green peas to see if we could get some larger microgreens for use. The green peas arrived and the results are now ready after exactly 14 days from seed. We planted them in a small 8oz deli container with an overnight soak to awaken the seeds. The results were simply astounding ... Within a week, the root mass below our media had created a large "mat" and pushed our layer of WonderSoil over the top lip of the container. As the peas continued to grow, tendrils emerged that made the upper section into a cohesive forest of peas ... wild and beautiful action for sure!!!
Not only was the growth amazing, the microgreens had the taste of tender green peas. The Wonderful World of Microgreens .... Kits are available for immediate shipment... We decided last week to grow out some of our faster growing microgreen crops to see what 7 days could produce. We took our buckwheat lettuce and radish blend seeds and started last Tues. The buckwheat lettuce seeds were soaked overnight while the radish blend was simply put in the dark and misted. After the overnight soaking, we put the buckwheat seeds into their tray and placed them with the radish seeds to grow. After 3 days of darkness, both trays were over 1" high so we put them on our window growing rack. Here are the pics of the two trays just before harvesting today. We just harvested both trays and combined them in a recycled salad container from our local costco (chicken caesar is what we have here). This is what the harvest looked like ... Just an amazing result from our Mini Farm-in-a-Box kit ...
Information abounds on the internet touting remedies for virtually any condition ailing you. There is a commonality to the effects of live, whole foods and what they can bring by simply adding them to your diet. Beyond that, there exists anecdotal evidence that certain plants contain elements that can actually help your body heal and become healthy. One noticeable standard is the addition of wheatgrass that has been juiced ... it seems the benefits of the chlorophyll that plant has manufactured has a profound influence on your health. We determined that two microgreen crops, sunflower and buckwheat lettuce contain high amounts of chlorophyll and all allow you to eat them directly and the other nutrients they contain without having to juice them like wheatgrass. With that in mind, we found a mix of sunflower and buckwheat and experimented in our growing kits. Here is a photo of the results after 8 days ... The results were both spectacular and great tasting. We further found that sunflower microgreens contain a full spectrum of amino acids and vitamin D while also providing an abundance of sun energy through the chlorophyll that compares favorably to wheat grass. Unlike wheat grass that cannot be digested properly by us, sunflower microgreens are in an easily eaten and digested form that is both tasty and nutritious. Buckwheat lettuce is very high in bioactive lechithin and helps eliminate deposits on arterial walls. Buckwheat lettuce is also an excellent source of chlorophyll and contains a good amount of B-vitamins like riboflavin and rutin (brain power). We refer to this mix as the Power Cleanse mix due to the highly active nature of its nutritional impacts.
