 If you have been following our development process on our new product, you are familiar with our multiple iterations to get to this point. We delivered this product today for evaluation and continue to work on getting this process optimized. Our crops pictured here are red acre cabbage and pak choi microgreens. The growing media is micro mats and they provide a superior root anchor. The photos below highlight our new large tray offering, these trays are approximately 9"x9" is size. Pictured also is version 1 of this logo design and the actual logo we are replicating. Version 1 used the same microgreen combination.

 We hinted in our previous blog about the new sizes that our kits will come in. Well here is the information that I can give you a sneak preview before we release our new kits this coming weekend. All of the trays are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. We have sourced this grow tray and humidity cover to create another pathway for your to save our environment and reuse previously landfilled waste to create sustainable and live foods for you. The trays include a clear plastic humidity dome that we use to keep our seeds moist while they germinate. It is made of the same bottle material as the black grow tray. The grow trays come in three sizes; small, medium and large (such an original naming convention). The small size is approx 6" square, medium approx 7" square while the large is approx 9" square. These trays create a durable multi-use growing container that you can be proud to use.  Are we confused yet? Let's try and sort this out. This is blog III of our Logo Art journey that is highlighting version 3 of our logo art plantings and we are going are going to unveil a new strategy on our 3 new sizes of kits today. This pic at the left is our 3rd planting of our logo art project. The pic below shows the seeding of the tray 3.5 days ago. The tray is looking good now and more closely resembles the logo and this tray will grow out to the green and red of version one that we completed last month. You can see how much larger our new tray is from our kit trays and our original attempt. Thus leading to our announcement that we will now be offering our kits in 3 sizes from now. The tray sizes will be as pictured and will include a third tray that is in between our pictured sizes. Our small kit (now standard size in our stores) is approx 6"x6" and shown in comparison to our new large tray which is approx 9"x9" in size. Our medium tray is approx 7"x7" and serves as middle step in production capacity. We will offer our kits as either with hydroponic micro mats or with WonderSoil wafers. Each kit will have enough seeds for 2 crops and seed and media refills will be available. Look for further details and availability coming this week.  In a blog we posted about 3 weeks ago, we showed the result of the first attempt at our logo art. Today we have pics of version 2 and 3 that was just planted. Our second try was using smaller amaranth plants and they were not strong enough to show the logo well. Thus we went back to our original plants and replanted a couple days ago in a larger container so we could get more detail in the logo. The larger container is about 8"x8" square and makes a nice frame for the full logo. Notice in the picture of the logo in version 1, this new planting has room for the cutouts. The photos below show the grown out versions 1 & 2 contrasted to the new version 3 tray. We also planted another big tray using larger plants and that will officially be called version 4. We are getting close. We have partners both in Mumbai India, San Francisco and Las Vegas who are commercial providers of microgreens. My daughter commented in one of my recent blogs by providing some photos from Capetown, SA that showed a microgreen operation there. I thought it might be fun to highlight photos of products from around the world ...  Our Las Vegas partner, Urban HydroGreens, is concentrating on adding super nutritional content to their smoothies. Their pictured Antioxidant Parfait features almond milk, bananas, blueberries and kale microgreens.
More and more smoothie and blended juice bars are increasing the punch of their offerings by including microgreens in small quantities of microgreens that have the impact of 10-30 times their weight of the comparable mature vegetables.  In testing done by the USDA Agricultural Research Service, the first comprehensive study on the nutrition contained in microgreens. Red cabbage microgreens had 40 times more vitamin E and six times more vitamin C than mature red cabbage.

See our etsy and our microgreen farm online stores.  We had earlier done a popular post featuring using microgreens to create a highly visual interpretation of the art of the microgreen. This post dealing with our first square inch garden gave me a new challenge when one of my clients asked to see if we could do their logo in microgreens. Here is the first try at a logo done with microgreens. We used some pak choi and red cabbage to create the pattern. We first had to figure out the way to do a template and then produce one to seed this. We have founf after these early attempts to a simple way to produce two color patterns. This has brought us to iteration 2 of the logo process. Here is a photo of the new seeded tray which should be ready in about 10 days. Watch for our blog of the grown out logo 2.   While rereading some research on nutrients carried by microgreens, I thought it may be fun to combine some of our great seeds into a visually fun mix. Thus was born the CKE Max Mix that stands for maximum amount of vitamins C, K and E. The seminal study done by Univ of Maryland researchers documents the intense punch of nutrients from microgreens.
Vitamin C, vitamin K, and vitamin E levels were highest among red cabbage, garnet amaranth, and green daikon radish microgreens. I combined these three into tray and started playing with a design. The different heights and sizes creates a really fun contrast while delivering gobs of nutrients .... |
