There have been all sorts of references to miracle cures that increasingly plague us as we are living longer and becoming more and more unwell as a society. The Indians, Egyptians, Chinese, and Sumerians are just a few ancient civilizations that have used food as medicine. Hippocrates, considered by some to be the father of Western medicine, said “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Linus Pauling (double Nobel Prize Winner) proposed that mental abnormalities might be successfully treated by correcting imbalances or deficiencies among naturally occurring biochemical constituents of the brain, notably vitamins and other micronutrients, as an alternative to the administration of potent synthetic psychoactive drugs.

Pauling later broadened this concept into orthomolecular medicine. The concept and term (meaning "right molecules in the right concentration") characterized an approach to the prevention and treatment of disease and attainment of optimum health that was based on the physiological and enzymatic actions of specific nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and amino acids present in the body.

The modern nutraceutical market began to develop in Japan during the 1980s. In contrast to the natural herbs and spices used as folk medicine for centuries throughout Asia, the nutraceutical industry has grown alongside the expansion and exploration of modern technology. Nutraceuticals are expected to be a $200+ Billion market by 2017 according to industry estimates.

Our new Farmacy Store is the start of our efforts to find the best nutritional products that have been identified to have health benefits. Based on the premise that micro crops are a concentrated natural source of many key elements, we have attempted to optimize the growing conditions and nutritional base for the plants to pass on some of the most potent examples of nutrition based "medicines". We are not processing or extracting and believe as the ancient ones that nutrition delivered via natural sources is always the best.

Our first kit is an amazing garden cress seed that is not only fast growing but extremely flavorful while being a potent source of all kinds of benefits. Within the next few days we will offer two or more additional kits in the same vein that can be either grown as a MicroFarm but also fares wonderfully in our MicroFarm ONE+ unit with LED's.
